Overview

The late middle ages in Europe were shaped by many cultural, social and political learning processes. During this epoch, social structures, forms of coexistence and rulership changed, and many people looked at foreign cultures. The techniques of agriculture, crafts, mining and war were significantly further developed, new ways of life formed in the cities and markets. Religious interpretations of the world also changed, and large groups of lay christians clearly distanced themselves from the teachings of theologians and clerics.
In many areas of life we ??recognize clear processes of emancipation from the traditional orders and structures of domination. Strong impulses for cultural learning processes in the areas of politics, economy and world interpretation emanated from the universities, which were formed in individual cities through the merger of monastic schools, palace schools and cathedral schools. At that time, writings from ancient culture were increasingly being rediscovered, copied and distributed.
Many educated people now began to orient themselves to the writings of ancient culture, but in doing so they relativized the teachings of theologians and clerics, they lost the monopoly on interpreting life and the world. Through the exchange with the jewish and islamic cultures in spain, southern france and southern italy, natural science and empirical medicine also began in europe. Aristotle's realistic interpretation of the world has slowly supplanted the metaphysical speculations of the platonists in the universities.
